Gareth Bale, the iconic Welsh footballer, three-time UEFA Champions League-winner and Wales’ all-time leading goalscorer, is making moves with a consortium. Combined, they plan to buy a majority stake in Cardiff City, a club deeply connected to her home city. Bale was thrilled at the prospect of joining Cardiff’s ownership. He referred to it as “a dream come true,” emphasizing his lifelong ties to the organization.
39-year-old Bale has spent the past 13 seasons with Real Madrid. In his years there, he rang up many successes—including 6 Champions League titles. A storied tenure with Tottenham Hotspur looms large on his illustrious career. Growing commitment Bale’s commitment to invest in football is becoming more apparent. This follows on from his unsuccessful earlier bid to seize control of Plymouth.
Bale’s rumored desire to return to Cardiff is the most opportune scenario imaginable for the club. They’re reeling from a relegation from the Championship last season. He hopes to leverage his experience to help the young team develop. His stated long-term aim is to bring them back up into the Premier League.
“It is a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.” – Gareth Bale
Unfortunately, earlier this month, Bale’s group contacted to ask about purchasing Cardiff City. Present owner Vincent Tan turned down their bid. Despite this setback, Bale is hopeful about continuing to connect with the club’s leadership at all levels.
“We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.” – Gareth Bale
Bale has the same lofty goals as his ex-Tottenham teammate Luka Modric. Just a few months ago, Modric made his debut in a new role as an investor and co-owner of Swansea City. Even European football’s most recent Ballon d’Or winner, Modric, expressed similar feelings on his newfound role in football ownership.
“This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase and the ambition to compete at the highest level.” – Luka Modric
Bale’s passion for Cardiff City is evident. He muses on memories growing up in the area and seeing his uncle’s work with the club. His promise to the squad represents a turning point in his life as well. Alongside this, it provides an opportunity for Cardiff to bounce back following their recent relegation.
