Congratulations to Minjee Lee on her victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship! She closed with a 2-over 74 to clinch her win, landing her third major title and a place in history. The Australian golfer entered the last round holding a four-stroke advantage. She shot a final score of 4-under 284, which tied her for the best overall score in the tournament. Despite the pressure, her lead never seemed in doubt, as she cruised home three strokes clear of challengers Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen, securing victory in style.
The championship took place at the historic Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, where Lee showcased her skill and composure throughout the tournament. Before the event, Lee was ranked 24th in the world. With her victory, she takes home not only her first win of the season, but extends her incredible title collection including the 2021 Evian Championship in France.
Lee started strong in the championship round. She ran into a few hurdles when she made three bogeys in a four-hole stretch on the front nine. Even with the delay though, into a high pressure situation, she knocked in a critical 8-foot par save on the 170-yard par-3 13th hole. This decision left her 3-under par. Though her lead never fell below two strokes all day, that clutch performance was key in keeping watch over her narrowest lead.
Remarkably, that included two rounds in the 60’s, 69’s on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. She also pulled off an incredible accomplishment by becoming the only player to have a bogey-free round—until Saturday. Her poise and shot-making and the fact that she never flinched when the going got tough ultimately carried her through.
In addition to the green jacket, Lee’s victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship carries a stunning financial reward. She ended up winning a stunning $1.8 million. She takes home this figure, tying her four-stroke win payout from the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles. This big winners check underlines her status as one of the top female golfers in the game.
With this latest win, Lee is one step closer to achieving that goal. She’s one step away from a career grand slam—all she needs is a victory at AIG Women’s Open or The Chevron Championship. Her performance during the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship cements her status as a top competitor on the women’s golf circuit.
