Nottinghamshire have confirmed the signing of Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan on a short-term deal for the County Championship. The 26-year-old replaces South African Kyle Verreynne. Verreynne is in Zimbabwe with South Africa currently, representing his country in a two-match series of T20s. Kishan’s signing comes at an important juncture. Nottinghamshire is a one-time County Championship Division One champion which is focused on maintaining its first-place position.
Kishan, who has played his entire first-class career with Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy, has a phenomenal record. He has scored almost 3,450 runs and has a best score of 273, which is his highest first-class score. Kishan has played in two Test matches for India. He has 59 games in ODIs and T20s, adding a wealth of experience to the squad.
In county cricket, he’ll make his Nottinghamshire debut this Sunday in their home clash with Yorkshire. The team holds a 10-point lead over Surrey as of today. Kishan said that he’s excited about this new chapter in his career.
“I’m feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills.” – Ishan Kishan
Nottinghamshire’s head coach, Peter Moores, highlighted Kishan’s capabilities, stating that he “brings proven quality” to the team as they compete in the championship. Kishan’s signing is set to supplement Nottinghamshire’s formidable batting order even further. They’re looking forward to getting back into red-ball mode with back-to-back fixtures against Yorkshire and Somerset later this month.
As Kishan steps onto the English pitch, he aims to make a significant impact in the County Championship, showcasing his skills and contributing to Nottinghamshire’s quest for championship success. His experience in international cricket and solid performance in domestic tournaments are anticipated to enhance the team’s competitiveness as they navigate through the season.
