Chiefs Rookie Josh Simmons Set for Full Participation in Training Camp

The Kansas City Chiefs have even better news! Rookie Josh Simmons will be ready to go full speed when training camp opens in July. Drafted in the first round as the 32nd overall pick, Simmons aims to make a significant impact on the team’s performance following a challenging season at Ohio State, where he suffered a torn patellar injury that sidelined him for part of the year.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed Simmons’ readiness, stating, “You can see his athletic ability. You can see his want-to. He’s got a great attitude. He’s approached everything the right way plus a little bit extra.” This positive assessment comes after Simmons participated in the offseason practices and minicamp, demonstrating his commitment to recovery and improvement.

Beyond Simmons, the Chiefs are counting on reinforcements returning from injury to pitch in as well. The star tight end and reigning NFL MVP who will turn 36 in October will not be limited to an arbitrary amount of snaps this season. Coach Reid emphasized that Kelce‘s age will not dictate his playing time, stating, “I’m not feeling that. It would be more like last year I would think as far as up and down as it moves. So, he’s in great shape right now, so I think he’s looking forward to getting going.”

Reid says he definitely won’t overuse Kelce in training camp or the regular season. He needs to keep the veteran in peak form while making sure he doesn’t run him into the ground.

It’s Rashee Rice… again! Returning from the knee injury that cost him most of last season, when he won’t be on the field until training camp opens. Reid spoke highly of Rice’s ability to help lead offseason practices, and praised him for the way he’s played after returning from injury. The head coach made it clear that he has no doubt as to Rice’s potential impact this season, but it’s crucial to stay tuned to his rehab path.

After the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent mandatory minicamp, with battles and breakouts brewing among the ranks, the atmosphere is primed for a hot training camp to come. The real story might be how loaded the team is with returning talent. With rookie standouts like Simmons and Rice, they’re poised to improve their roster even further before the 2021 NFL season.
