Alaric Jackson’s Health Issues Prompt Caution from Rams Coach

In the case of Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson, they should be erring on the side of caution. Now he is in a battle for his life from recurring blood clots. Jackson missed the last nine games of the 2022 season due to this ailment. This past spring, though, he did sign a new three-year, $57 million contract with the Rams. Their choice to keep Jackson prior to his impending free agency represents their commitment not just to his talent, but to navigating his health concerns.

Last year, Jackson proved he was more than capable, starting 14 games for the Rams. But his participation took a major hit. An indefinite suspension after a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy left him unable to play in the first two games of the season. Most recently, Jackson was unable to fly with the team to their upcoming mandatory minicamp in Hawaii. Now that has set off another round of concern for his continued health.

Head Coach Sean McVay noted that the focus is on doing what’s best for Jackson. He stated, “There needs to be a lot of discussion and dialogue with [Jackson] and with the doctors about, most importantly, what’s best for him as a human being.” This statement reflects McVay’s commitment to ensuring that Jackson receives the necessary support and medical attention during this challenging time.

As the Rams prepare for the upcoming season, McVay confirmed that they are taking a cautious approach regarding Jackson’s health. He noted, “We’re really just taking it a day at a time.” This approach indicates that the team is carefully monitoring Jackson’s condition and will make decisions based on his progress and medical advice.
