Steelers Secure Key Defender with Two-Year Extension for Elliott

The Pittsburgh Steelers responded by extending their Pro Bowl linebacker Elandon Elliott on a two-year deal, keeping their powerful 3-4 defense intact. At only 28 years old, Elliott has established himself as the engine room of this side. Last season, he proved just how elite he is as a strong run defender.

Rounding onto the third year of Elliott’s career, a span of 72 games played in which he racked an astounding 395 total tackles. Not bad for a guy who was a sixth round draft pick. He began his professional career with the Baltimore Ravens, spending four seasons there before jumping to the Detroit Lions for a final year. Most notably with the Miami Dolphins, his work helped put Elliott’s name on the national radar and increase his brand equity in the league.

Last season, Elliott quickly became one of the Steelers’ most consistently great defenders. With 108 combined tackles on the season, he proved to be pivotal in shutting down opposing offenses. On top of that, he proved he can create turnovers too, with two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries on the season. His talent at being a disruptive force to achieve tackles for loss put him on display. He finished tied for the third most tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The Steelers chose to extend his contract regardless, showing confidence in Elliott’s talent. This move is indicative of their resolve to maintain a fearsome defensive front. His achievements in 2022 were instrumental to the team’s plans, rendering him a key piece for future success.

Elliott’s experience and performance will be paramount as the Steelers look to rebound and make a run for the 2023 season. The linebacker’s expected versatility, range, and ability to make game-changing plays will add to a fearsome defensive front. In truth, he’s just sharpening his edges. Fans and analysts alike want to see him light it up, changing games in what’s left of the season.
