Scotland triumphed over the Netherlands by 39 runs in their opening T20 tri-series match held at Clydesdale Cricket Club in Glasgow. Scotland’s victory was devastatingly beautiful, a fitting act of redemption. This victory took place within just three short days of experiencing an upset loss against the exact same competition in a Cricket World Cup League 2 match played in Dundee.
In what was a closely-fought pillow fight, Scotland posted a strong total of 160 runs for 8 wickets. Finlay McCreath helped power their innings with a standout 40 runs. Senior Matthew Cross had an impressive showing, contributing 33 runs to the score. When Munsey scored 30 off 17 balls, he ensured Scotland made the most of peaks of positivity. He littered his innings with three sixes and two fours!
The Netherlands fell well short in their chase, all out for 121 inside 19 overs. Michael Levitt was the chief irritant for their scoring with 36 runs, while Van Meekeren chipped in with an undefeated 20 runs. Unfortunately for the Dutch batting lineup, a relentless Scottish bowling attack was always going to be too tough to break down.
Aryan Dutt proved to be a star bowler for the Dutch, taking 3 wickets for only 17 runs. For this effort, Scotland’s bowlers ran over the match. Safyaan Sharif took 2 wickets for 13 runs, while Jack Jarvis and Mark Watt each contributed with 2 wickets.
The match had an unexpected delayed start due to disturbances on the fields, but ended up as a thrilling battle between bat and ball that the fans witnessed. Scotland will have their eyes on building on their impressive win. They’re looking ahead to only their second match of the series, against Nepal on Tuesday.
