Rory Kleinveldt, a key target since joining the game, will move on from Northamptonshire next month. He has agreed to become head coach to Western Province back in his native South Africa. At 42, Kleinveldt arguably brings more experience to his new role. As a player, he represented Western Province for 17 years before beginning his coaching career.
During his tenure at Northamptonshire, Kleinveldt positively impacted his club as both a player and coach. He played 109 T20 matches for the club, taking 217 wickets. His performances played a key role in guiding the side to T20 Blast final glory in 2016. In March 2024, he defected back to Northamptonshire. In that role, he became the department head of the bowling department and the department’s head bowling coach.
Kleinveldt’s time as a head coach has been preceded by his time as an assistant coach at Western Province for two seasons. His deep connection with the team and understanding of its culture make him a fitting choice for the head coach position. He will join Western Province officially in the middle of July.
Ray Payne, Northamptonshire’s chief executive officer, expressed gratitude for Kleinveldt’s contributions to the club.

Kleinveldt’s on-field contributions extended beyond county cricket to four Test caps for South Africa. He is making a huge career and life change by returning to South Africa. In this well-trod space, he definitely will be the change agent.
Kleinveldt is looking forward to an exciting new chapter with Western Province. The global cricket community is excited to see his wealth of experience and insight help guide the development, growth and evolution of the team.
