Pelicans General Manager Graham Moves to Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have hired Trajan Graham as their new general manager. This is a huge change in his career, as he spent the last 15 years with the New Orleans Pelicans. Graham’s time with the Pelicans has given him tremendous organizational experience. He began as an intern, worked up to video coordinator and assistant coach before being promoted to general manager in June of 2022.

Graham’s path to the Pelicans started as an intern, showing off his impressive skills and work ethic only from the door. He eventually moved up the ranks to become video coordinator. In this capacity, he used film study to break down opponent tendencies, while creating player development plans that maximized each individual’s potential. Graham’s eye for coaching soon landed him into numerous coaching spots, where he was pivotal in the development of young talent.

During his tenure with the Pelicans, Graham took on front office responsibilities, which culminated in his promotion to general manager. His leadership allowed the team to develop some very critical high-round draft picks and talent acquisition strategies. During his tenure, he helped the Pelicans find and develop a number of future stars.

Included in these successful second round picks are Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III, Yves Missi, Jose Alvarado, Naji Marshall, and Jordan Hawkins. The value these players have already added to the team is immeasurable with each player displaying their versatility, poise and potential in different roles.

Among Graham’s most significant achievements was his role in the drafting of Dyson Daniels. Under Graham’s stewardship, Daniels experienced a breakout season, ultimately winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year award. While this award was a testament to Daniels’ tireless work, it was an acknowledgment of Graham’s keen eye for talent and leadership in cultivating it.

Graham is moving into his new role with the Hawks. He’ll be hard at work on FIDO, with a wealth of experience, and a proven track record of success under his belt. His breadth of knowledge in regards to player development and team chemistry is first-rate. This understanding will prove imperative as he tries to improve the Hawks’ competitive advantage in the league.
