The Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, defeating the Indiana Pacers 123-107 on Sunday night. The scenario above played out to perfection as the Thunder walked away with a stunning victory, evening the series at one game apiece. Now, they prepare for a thrilling Game 3 on Wednesday in Indianapolis, the city’s first finals game in 25 years.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the spearhead of the offensive attack for Oklahoma City, doing most of the damage—34 points—in an efficient manner. His performance included a significant milestone, as his first basket of the game marked his 3,000th point of the season. On top of that, Gilgeous-Alexander passed Jalen Brunson to become the number one all-time playoff scorer overall.
During one of their dominating second quarter periods, the Thunder put together a 19-2 run. That game-changing 14-0 run gave Miami a comfortable, 23-point advantage. Despite the Pacers’ efforts to close the gap, Oklahoma City’s lead remained secure throughout the contest.
The bench gave great support with Alex Caruso scoring 20 points. His strong showing displayed the ridiculous depth of the Thunder roster. Jalen Williams and Aaron Wiggins proved crucial, scoring 19 and 18 points respectively. Chet Holmgren rounded out the scoring with 15 points, kicking off what has the making to be an elite Thunder offense.
Myers Turner had 16 points to top Indiana’s scoring. At the same time, Pascal Siakam and Tyrese Haliburton chipped in with 15 points each and 17 from Haliburton. It was difficult for the Pacers to find a rhythm against an aggressive Thunder defense.
Despite their disastrous start in the first quarter of Game 2, the Thunder showed us that they can bounce back and deliver punishments during extreme high-stake affairs. With the series tied equally, the stakes are higher than ever. All eyes now turn to Game 3, as both alliances go head-to-head in a battle for competition supremacy and ingenious strategy.
