Former NFL Player Kelvin Joseph Charged in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Kelvin Joseph, the ex-NFL defensive back, is charged with murder. These charges are related to a recently released video of a tragic crash that took the life of a female motorcyclist on a Dallas-area freeway. The incident occurred during the early morning hours. Tragically, it took the life of 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano. Joseph, who was 25 at the time of his arrest, was driving what his defense attorney described as a “shitty little BMW” when he hit and killed Amber Evans.

According to authorities, Joseph was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, his most recent arrest. He was charged on a crash causing serious bodily injury or death, a second-degree felony. Immediately after the crash, he called police in Plano, Texas to let them know that he was the one who caused the crash. This tragic event marks a significant turn in Joseph’s life and career, previously characterized by promise and potential in the NFL.

As we said before, the Dallas Cowboys selected Kelvin Joseph in the second round of 2021’s NFL Draft. After just two seasons with the team, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. This spring, he played in the United Football League. His engagement is a true testament to his dedication to the game of professional football, despite previous missteps. During the 2022 offseason, Joseph unknowingly ended up in an SUV involved in a totally different incident. Shots were fired before a gallery of peaceful demonstrators in Dallas. In that crash, a construction worker was killed on impact after being hit in the head. Joseph was present while they were still processing the crime scene and hadn’t yet determined Joseph’s innocence. Consequently, the NFL decided not to suspend him in the wake of the incident.

If Joseph’s latest actions sound extreme, it’s because the consequences would be extensive—not just for his home life and personal business, but for his public service career. The burden of charges he now faces will bring legal consequences that could foreclose his life in football and otherwise.
