England Completes Series Clean Sweep Against West Indies

England continued to rule the one-day international series against West Indies. They booked their place in style with a nine-wicket victory in an abbreviated match at Taunton affected by rain. This win marked the third consecutive triumph for England in the series, concluding it with a clean sweep of 3-0.

The Red Mountain boys dominated the struggling West Indies for the entire duration of their innings. They managed to score only 106 runs at the loss of 8 wickets inside 21 overs. Qiana Joseph was a notable contributor, scoring 34 runs, while Shemaine Campbelle added 18 runs before being stumped off Charlie Dean. Joseph and Campbelle, an equally short-lived pair, put together a 39-run partnership. Unfortunately, that total was not enough to be competitive.

Aaliyah Alleyne certainly wowed them over with her outstanding batting exhibition. She clobbered five fours in a row off the penultimate over from Filer! Jahzara Claxton would seal the T20I with an impactful 11 from 4 balls. Among her trademark knocks was an imposing six into the crowd off England leg-spinner Sarah Glenn.

Take nothing away from England’s superbly hostile bowling performance throughout the match. Sarah Glenn, pictured above, led the attack as she took three for 21. Em Arlott backed her up beautifully, returning two for 15. It was their labours which guaranteed that the West Indies were bowled out for 139, well short of a stiff target.

In pursuit of a stiff target of 106 runs, England showed their class with the bat. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt had a big influence and scored 57 off 33 balls. At the other end, Dunkley made 26 off 21 as she joined England while opening the innings. Alice Capsey completed the innings by finishing not out on 20. England chased down the target comfortably in just 10.5 overs, clinching the win under the DLS method.

“A great way to finish the series, finish the way we wanted to. A happy group.” – England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt

The West Indies’ captain, Shemaine Campbelle, reflected on the series’ challenges and opportunities for growth. She recognized what their younger players gained from being in the moment during the entire series.

“There are a lot of learnings that can come out of this series. The younger players have stepped up and they have made good use of it. There is a lot of improvement to come. It’s a work in progress and they will learn quickly from this.” – West Indies captain Shemaine Campbelle

Amy Jones, the Player of the Series, said she was pleased with how things went and what she got out of the tour.

“It has exceeded my expectation. A lot of fun batting at the top and it was good to get the last win.” – Player of the Series Amy Jones
