Star center, Karl-Anthony Towns, was recently acquired by the New York Knicks from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Once again, he’s made a smooth transition into his new role in the Big Apple. His incredible step-up game this season has cemented him as one of the best players in the league. He is one of just two players averaging 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds, doing so while shooting 40% from beyond the arc. The only other active player to accomplish this great milestone is Nikola Jokic.
Everyone was impressed, but nobody was surprised when Towns’ success became the talk of the show. He was named an All-Star and to the All-NBA third team in recognition of his transformative impact on the court. His journey this postseason hasn’t been without its hiccups. In Game 3 of the second round against rebounding-defending-killing Boston Celtics, Towns injured a finger. That was quickly followed by a serious knee injury during the Eastern Conference finals vs. the Indiana Pacers.
Despite these setbacks, Towns has shown resilience. For the bruise on his left knee as well as the torn ligaments on his left index finger. His treatment is designed to help him recover and be in shape for upcoming games.
Even with Towns maxed out, the Knicks are financially committed to him for the next three seasons. He has a full, tradeable player option on the 2027-28 season. The earliest he can sign an extension is during the upcoming offseason. If made, this would tack an additional two years onto his deal.
Towns’ investment in his recovery is indicative of his desire to keep providing high-level performances for the Knicks at 7’3”. He keeps eye-popping numbers, despite major injury hurdles. This was of course a testament to his incredible skill and tenacity as an athlete.
