Dundee Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Steven Pressley. This represents a big leadership change following the exit of Tony Docherty. The accomplished former Scotland international defender, Pressley, now enters this new capacity. The club has stated their intent to increase their competitive advantage through next year’s election campaigns.
At 51 years old, Pressley is joining Dundee with an impressive résumé. He subsequently managed at Aldershot Town and Eastleigh, but hasn’t held a managerial role since leaving Carlisle United in 2019. Instead, those four years were mostly spent on the books of English Premier League club Brentford. He served under famed manager Gordon Strachan’s reign at Celtic. This full education in the game allowed him to come away with a far more nuanced understanding of the game.
Dundee’s stringent vetting process revealed Pressley as the top candidate to take over as the head coach of the 2022 squad. Managing Director John Nelms expressed enthusiasm about Pressley’s appointment, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Steven Pressley as the new head coach of Dundee Football Club.” His deep knowledge and experience in the game of football are sure to be critical as he leads the team into the future.
As a former player and coach himself, Pressley’s coaching philosophy fits perfectly with Dundee’s dedication to developing players and a winning brand of football from the ground up. He’ll be joined by newly appointed technical director Gordon Strachan, whose remit will be the concentrated development of both senior and development players.
“His main role will be working alongside technical director Gordon Strachan and head coach Steven Pressley to ensure the concentrated development of the individual player.” – Dundee (club statement)
In his new role, Pressley aims to instill a framework that reinforces the idea that senior players and development players are part of one cohesive team. Providing this mentorship is considered key to cultivating talented leaders of the future while creating a positive culture inside the club.
Yet Dundee hopes for a brighter tomorrow under Pressley’s stewardship. We all at the club are hugely excited about the successful campaigns which lie ahead, led by his expertise and direction.
“Welcome to the club, David, and we are looking forward to many successes in the future.” – Dundee (club statement)
