Boyd and Sutton Announce Their Scottish Premiership Team of the Season

Former football stars Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton have unveiled their combined Scottish Premiership team of the season, showcasing standout players from the league. Our team has selected a 4-1-4-1 formation. This choice reflects the strategic wisdom that the baseball commentariat disseminated when grading players during the shortened professional season.

Celtic then has strong representation, contributing a total of seven players to the lineup. The team’s goalkeeper is Kasper Schmeichel, perhaps best known for his spectacular saves (and a father who was also a spectacular goalkeeper). Celtic’s Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers join Hibernian’s Rocky Bushiri and Nicky Cadden along the backline. Put them together and you have a deep, dangerous and well-balanced defensive front.

At the base of midfield in front of the Celtic defense has been Callum McGregor to great effect. The midfield features three more Celtic players: Nicolas Kuhn, Reo Hatate, and Daizen Maeda. Maeda has been one of the big surprises this season. His remarkable contributions across the season culminated in him lifting PFA Scotland & Football Writers Association Player of the Year. Vaclav Cerny of Rangers completes the midfield, giving his club a player in this exclusive group.

Dundee’s Simon Murray has taken up the FDJ striking position. He was named the league’s most valuable player after scoring 16 league goals this season, strengthening his club’s grip on the league. Another candidate for the role could have been Sam Dalby of Dundee United, but he did not make the final cut.

As Boyd and Sutton noted, there was very little dissent on their choices, showing that a clear consensus emerged on the top performers in the league. Dimitar Mitov of Aberdeen made for an impressive candidate on the goalkeeper front. Sadly for him, he didn’t end up in the final 53.

This impressive joint XI is a testament to personal ability as well as shining a light on how competitive the Scottish Premiership has been this campaign. Celtic turned up in historic fashion, proving just how strong they are. On top of this, clubs such as Hibernian, Rangers and Dundee brought new skills that highlighted the huge variety that the league had to offer.
