Michael La Sasso, a junior golfer at the University of Mississippi, displayed uncommon skills and poise during the NCAA men’s golf championship. He earned the title in dominating fashion, laying claim with a stellar showing on championship Sunday. La Sasso, who began the day as the leader by two shots, embraced the pressure. He went on to win the tournament, finishing with a stunning score of 11-under 277. His victory is more than a personal milestone. He is the second Ole Miss golfer to capture an NCAA championship.
36-hole leader La Sasso began his final round on No. 1 with strong accuracy. He wasted no time demonstrating his resolve, sending a message by birdying the opening two holes. These initial victories pushed him out in front of Phichaksn Miachon of Texas A&M. Miachon pressed hard all day long, but wasn’t able to stay in contention. La Sasso was in a tough spot with double bogeys on No. 15 and No. 17. After that rough start, he responded beautifully with back-to-back stunning birdies on the back nine.
La Sasso led the Keene State attack in round three with an even-par 72. That phenomenal round gave her a two-shot victory over Miachon. His resilience after every low point faced throughout the round was an impressive display of his mental fortitude and competitive nature.

With this victory, La Sasso has paved the way to some really cool stuff. He earned an invitation to compete at Oakmont in two weeks for the U.S. Open and clinched a berth in next April’s Masters Tournament.
La Sasso’s accomplishment is met with genuine celebration by his Ole Miss teammates and coaches. The larger golf community is celebrating with him, as his transcendent success is worth celebrating. His victory is testimony to the years of effort and concentration that he has invested in developing his craft while at the collegiate level. La Sasso has her sights set on qualifying for top international tournaments. His confidence and skill will soon go head-to-head with some of the world’s best golfers.
