Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a promising 14-year-old batter, has been selected to represent India in the Under-19 squad for an upcoming tour of England. The tour starts on 27th June in Hove – we hope to see you there! Emerging young cricketers will fight to prove themselves in five youth One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two thrilling multi-day matches.
The upcoming series against England will be key to Suryavanshi. More importantly, it provides him an opportunity to show off his talents on an international platform. The first of those five, and the first of these multi-day matches, will be played at Beckenham, before a second fixture at Chelmsford. These matches should prove a great test for the home-grown talent. They’re going to give him real game-time experience, which is crucial, especially in such different formats of the game.
Suryavanshi is already creating waves with his extraordinary showing in the first half of IPL 2023. He turned heads with his 252 runs from seven matches for the Rajasthan Royals. He had a strike rate of 206.55 in this time, signalling his intent with the bat and his ability to dominate the bowlers. He produced an innings for the ages, hitting 101 runs in just 38 balls – the greatest semi-final performance of all time. That incredible accomplishment helped the Rajasthan Royals to a huge eight-wicket win over the Gujarat Titans. With 7 fours and a staggering eleven sixes, it proved to be the most influential innings of his career.
His century was impressive both for the pyrotechnics he let loose but for the pace at which he did so. It is a record-setting one, in fact. Suryavanshi’s hundred is the second fastest IPL hundred in terms of balls faced. He scored it in only 35 balls, marking it the fastest by an Indian. He displayed his batting prowess earlier with a 58-ball hundred in a youth Test against Australia, establishing his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s inclusion to the Under-19 squad exemplifies his potential and the faith selectors have in the abilities he possesses. As he prepares for an upcoming tour to England, all eyes will be on the precociously talented young batter to see if he can transfer his domestic success onto the global stage.
