Dak Prescott Embraces New Season After Overcoming Injuries

Dak Prescott is setting out on his 10th NFL season with a fresh bounce in his step and hope—renewed hope—after an impressive recovery effort last year. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, who has started at least 12 games in each of his seven seasons, has demonstrated resilience despite facing injuries in four of the past five years. Although Prescott ultimately finished second to Hurts in MVP voting, he led the entire NFL with an impressive 36 touchdown passes in 2023.

Dallas has toasted five seasons with Texans-like playoff runs, punchless exits from the postseason, all during Prescott’s tenure. They’ve never made it out of the divisional round. Revisiting his life and times, he mused, “Folks say anything they wanna say about me, bruh. This recognition sheds light on the incredible scrutiny he has been under, especially for his performance during key moments.

During the offseason, Prescott had surgery to repair an avulsion and has dedicated himself to a long-term recovery plan. He works hand-in-hand with Britt Brown, the director of rehab. He trains with Cowboys’ training staff and his personal trainer, Luke Wilson. Prescott cautions that he never felt like he was behind the eight ball.

“My offseason started way earlier so that’s really pretty much why I’m ahead,” he said. His aggressive rehabilitation has played a big part in his confidence as he gears up for next season.

Prescott’s commitment should inspire each of us as he speaks to his intense motivation to remain healthy and become better. And as a play, I just show up, and control what I can control healthy. Trying to stay healthy. Feels good. Just trying to keep feeding the energy and really just keep feeding myself to keep getting better,” he said.

Drafted as a fourth-round pick in 2016, Prescott has proven himself as a formidable player, starting all 122 games he has played thus far. His commitment to the Cowboys resulted in him getting a hefty four-year, $240 million extension last summer. As a result of this deal, he became the highest-paid QB in NFL history.

As a new season rapidly approaches, Prescott is focused on what’s ahead. Everything else really, pretty much can do it all. Feel good,” he said with extreme conviction. The young quarterback’s competitive spirit will be tested as he tries to carry the Cowboys further into the playoffs.
