New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham, 34, has signed a one-year deal with Durham. He’s looking forward to this summer’s T20 Blast where he can put his new skills to use. This decision is a huge victory for the ensemble. With tons of experience and skill, Neesham significantly increases our squad’s strength and talent. Neesham is an exciting all-rounder who brings explosive left-handed batting and right-arm seam bowling. On the international stage, however, he has made quite a reputation.
Neesham has played 83 T20 internationals for New Zealand, and he’s made some big contributions with both bat and ball in the shortest format. On top of that, he has played in 76 One Day Internationals (ODIs), piercing his reputation as a solid and quality player even more. Extent of his previous experience in domestic leagues lays the foundation for having spent time with Derbyshire, Essex, Kent, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Most recently, he has shown his ability across all formats in The Hundred, where he played for Welsh Fire.
Neesham’s arrival is extremely timely for Durham. The team recently made it to the T20 Blast quarter-finals 2024, their first appearance at this stage in six years. This accomplishment highlights the team’s desire to build a deep and dynamic roster that will improve its performance on a national level.
