Ben Carse Set for County Return as Durham Faces Nottinghamshire

Ben Carse, the 29-year-old England bowler, is looking forward to a long-awaited return to county cricket this Friday. He’ll make his home debut when Durham take on Nottinghamshire in a County Championship game at Chester-le-Street. Carse returns to action for the first time in a county game since September 2019. He had otherwise been out for an extended period after a toe injury playing in the Champions Trophy in February.

Durham’s head coach, Ryan Campbell, was very clear that match time was the most important thing for Carse. He feels the bowler has lost his rhythm and touch as he sets his sights on bigger fixtures in the future. Carse’s inclusion in the squad comes at a critical time, as he was not selected for England’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe, which starts next Thursday at Trent Bridge.

Carse comes under increased pressure after missing the Zimbabwe Test. He will need to show he’s up for a five-match Test series against India, beginning June 20 at Headingley. After making his red-ball debut for England last winter, Carse made a similarly poised impression on the Eagles. He recorded 27 wickets in only five Tests against Pakistan and New Zealand, with a startlingly good bowling average of 19.85.

As Nottinghamshire currently leads the County Championship, the match against Durham will serve as a key opportunity for Carse to showcase his skills and fitness level. The coaching staff and fans alike are eager to see how he performs after several months away from competitive cricket.
