The New York Knicks knocked off the Boston Celtics by 38 points in what turned out to be a statement game. This victory helped to carry them through to their first ever Eastern Conference Finals. In response, the Knicks were able to celebrate the most lopsided victory in franchise postseason history. Now, they’re getting ready for a fascinating rematch against the Indiana Pacers.
Mikal Bridges was the Knicks offense’s bright spot, scoring 22 points in a variety of ways and leading the charge to come from behind nearly all match long. Jalen Brunson contributed significantly, adding 23 points. Karl-Anthony Towns was instrumental, chipping in 21 points. The team’s depth was on display as OG Anunoby countered Brunson’s performance, scoring 23 points of his own.
The Celtics had no answers as they were unable to get going offensively. Most importantly, they lost their star player Jayson Tatum, who ruptured his Achilles tendon late in Game 4 of the series. Jaylen Brown, who scored 20 points, fouled out with just 2:50 remaining in the third quarter, further hampering Boston’s efforts to mount a comeback.
The Knicks absolutely dominated the boards! Hart particularly stood out, as he scored 10 points and flashed some of his All-Defensive Team abilities. Hart grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 11 assists. He showed to be a huge piece for New York in terms of both scoring and playmaking.
The win now prepares them for a thrilling series against the Indiana Pacers. The Knicks, we note, have not played them since the conference finals in 2000! The inaugural match for this thrilling new chapter comes Wednesday night in New York City. All we know is that fans are excited to find out if the Knicks can continue their magical spree through the playoffs!
