Brock Purdy Secures Landmark Contract with San Francisco 49ers

For San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy, he just locked down a life-changing $265 million five-year deal. This new deal has a staggering $181 million in guaranteed money. It represents a huge accomplishment for that player, who earned the title of “Mr. Irrelevant” when he was drafted last overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The deal is the latest sign of Purdy’s meteoric ascent in the NFL. According to Jim Trotter, that cements his role as a “cornerstone player” for the franchise.

Purdy’s new contract is a $53 million average per season. This payout ranks him as one of the top paid quarterbacks in the league. Under this contract, he’ll make an average of $2.9 million per seven-day work week. This would be a huge jump from the $2.6 million he earned in total over his first three years in the NFL. This change is simply a reflection of how well he has played. It speaks to the 49ers’ confidence in his leadership abilities on and off the field.

During the 2024 season, Purdy not only proved to be a freakish talent, but a gamer. Having just returned from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 10, he was an uncharacteristic 11-for-20 in his return game. His efficiency all season was impressive, as he ranked seventh in the NFL with a QBR of 68.0. On top of that, he finished the year ranked tenth in passing yards and third in yards per attempt, averaging 8.5 ypa. Purdy will probably end the year with a 1.7 touchdown-to-interception ratio, which is tied for 23rd best. Yet, his all-around efforts have been a key to the team’s success.

Ever since coming in as the starter in 2022, Purdy has taken the 49ers to new heights. Today, they are considered favorites to win the Super Bowl. His QBR of 70.2 ranks him fourth among all QB’s since he became a full time starter. At the same time, he’s running away with the league in yards per attempt at 8.9.

Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the 49ers, has praised Purdy’s leadership and effectiveness:

“Brock is the leader of our team.” – Kyle Shanahan

As Purdy himself explained, he wants to show the team that they can trust him and that he can help them win games. He stated,

“More than anything for me, I want to be able to handle business the right way and do it in a respectable manner and get back to my team as fast as I can to get going.” – Brock Purdy

Purdy’s remarkable journey is deeply inspirational. He changed that narrative, going from the final player picked in the 2018 NFL draft to earning one of the largest contracts in league history. His positive attitude and doggedness have completely turned around his career. They’ve done so as perhaps the greatest driver of the 49ers’ performance on the field.

“I want to be in San Francisco and play my football career here.” – Brock Purdy

Purdy intends to hit the ground running now that he’s signed his new deal. He is all-in on helping his teammates land their own deals, while undoubtedly remaining committed to the overall glory of the team.

As Purdy prepares to move forward with this new contract, he remains focused on helping his teammates secure their own deals while maintaining a strong commitment to team success.

“That’s my mindset, my focus. And obviously I want to help the team across the board with all the other guys who need to get their deals done, but everybody will handle it the right way and how they need to.” – Brock Purdy
