Brock Purdy Signs Landmark Contract with 49ers Amid Rising Expectations

Brock Purdy, quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has rounded on to the next turn in his career. He signed a historic five-year, $265 million contract, with $181 million guaranteed. However, this deal secures his status with the franchise until at least the conclusion of the 2030 season. It underscores Purdy’s increasing worth and raises the bar pretty high as he enters his first season as the 49ers’ highest-paid player in franchise history.

Last year, Purdy entered the league as Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since then he’s risen swiftly up the ladder, proving his ability quickly on the pitch. Last year, he completed 68.6 percent of passes with a 67.9 Quarterback Rating (QBR), good for seventh in the NFL. His breakout performance featured a career-high 323 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, signaling his potential as a dangerous scrambler.

With an average annual value of $8.5 million, Purdy’s new deal would put him as the seventh-highest-paid quarterback in the league. It’s a staggering jump from his 4-year rookie deal that averaged a mere $853,333 per season. His meteoric rise to power is still astounding. It’s all the more impressive considering the impact that injuries to most of his key players had on him in his second season. Through the 2024 season, Purdy struggled with deficits in the fourth quarter. He only posted a 54.6 QBR while tossing three TDs and five backbreaking INTs.

Under Purdy’s leadership, the 49ers are on their way to their second NFC Championship Game, including one of the biggest wins. The residents and team can’t wait for the 2025 arrival. They think they have the easiest schedule in the league in front of them. On the positive side, Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, and Brandon Aiyuk should be back from injuries before long. Their return will make Purdy’s offensive arsenal even more potent.

As the franchise moves into this new chapter with their long-term answer at quarterback, 49ers owner Jed York, unsurprisingly, had a lot of confidence in Purdy’s abilities.

“Especially when you combine him with Kyle and you combine him with what we have, and he’s a heck of a quarterback. And we want him to be here for a long, long time.” – Jed York

Head coach Kyle Shanahan underscored the importance of stability at the quarterback position, emphasizing the need for certainty moving forward.

“You need to be certain on that.” – Kyle Shanahan

Purdy’s story—from Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft to signing a multi-million dollar deal—says a lot about his professional commitment. It’s indicative of the faith that the 49ers organisation has in his skill set. The upcoming season will be his biggest test yet. Perhaps more importantly, it will test his ability to lead a collection of alpha dogs — necessary for a contender with championship aspirations.
