Scotland Sets Record in Dominant Victory Over Netherlands

Scotland’s cricket team had an amazing run to defeat the Netherlands. They cruised to an all-time high score of 380-9 in their last game. Scotland recorded a remarkable feat in this match by scoring the highest ever total in CWCL2. They exceeded that record of 348, set by the United Arab Emirates in 2022, and their own record of 371, set in their upset victory against England in 2018.

Though the final was played at a neutral ground, Scotland’s top order delivered a stunning display of patience and poise. Brandon McMullen and Richie Berrington each contributed significantly to the score. Without a doubt each competitor was beaming when they crossed the finish line with their 100th run! McMullen’s knock of 101 was from just 93 balls, and Berrington cracked 105 off 92 balls. George Munsey’s contribution in particular stood out after his 50-to-100 run blitz of only 24 deliveries. He capped off that four-month stretch by blasting 80 runs off just 20 balls in one inning.

Berrington said he was proud of the performances of his teammates, saying, “Munsey and McMullen were just incredible.” He acknowledged the value of their bowlers, saying, “On another day there might have been a few more out there as well. Don’t forget the bowlers too – they came out and did the job again.”

It was a double hundred for both sides. McMullen and Berrington were jubilant in their accomplishments as they both registered their fourth One Day International (ODI) century. With an average of 48.74 in ODIs, McMullen is yet to have his feat forgotten.

It was the bowling department that proved most vital for Scotland’s Boyce, as they led the charge in both victories. McMullen was a dynamic presence with the bat but she made a strong impact with her bowling, taking four wickets against the Netherlands. Brad Currie gave tremendous support by taking three wickets as well. At the same time, it was Jack Jarvis and Safyan Sharif who furthered the cause with two wickets apiece.

Scotland’s complete victory could hardly have been more complete, as they crushed Denmark by 145 runs, extending their overall supremacy in this series.

In reflecting on the match, Berrington noted, “We knew it was important to finish this series strong. We’ve managed to do that. We’ve shown a lot of character and can take a bit of momentum into another important series back in Scotland.”
