Charlie Woods, only 16, is the son of all-time great Tiger Woods. He hit a major roadblock on his journey to try and qualify for the U.S. Open. Action at the Wellington Golf Club in F…, on Thursday. His 3-over-par 75 left him seven strokes short of the qualifying cutline. The required score to advance was 68.
Woods’ qualifying performance is a stark contrast to his last qualifying attempt. At first glance, the feat seems daunting, as last year, he limped his way to a 9-over 81 at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Even with his current tumbling fortunes, Woods is the shining picture of comeback so far to qualify for this year’s U.S. Junior Amateur after last year’s efforts. Sadly, he badly missed the cut by 18 strokes.
In this latest qualifying round, Woods faced stiff competition but showed glimpses of potential that may bode well for his future endeavors. He’ll have at least one more opportunity to qualify for the U.S. Open. He’s preparing for a one-day, 36-hole final qualifier at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach, Fla. This majestic event will have him going up against his three fellow pro golfers Tyler Stachkunas, Carson Kiawonn and Michael Gligic.
The 2025 U.S. Open is scheduled for June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. As Charlie Woods continues to pursue a career in golf, his journey remains closely watched by fans and analysts alike, particularly given his father’s legendary status in the sport.
