Unbeaten Glamorgan took control on the first day of their Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby, closing on 336 for 6. That left Colin Ingram leading the charge for Glamorgan as he headed into the close on 80 not out. His innings was an ideal blend of patience and aggression that enabled him to anchor the team’s total. Batting around Ingram while providing strong innings of their own were Sam Northeast and Asa Tribe, who scored 63 runs and 58 runs respectively. These three batsmen set Glamorgan on their way to 175. Their collective efforts lifted the T4J cyclists to a respectable total heading into the final day.
In spite of the impressive display from Glamorgan’s batters, Derbyshire’s bowlers contributed to a welcome return to comprehensive wickets for their attack. Luis Reece and Anuj Dal had previously taken two wickets apiece in the game. Reece led the attack with outstanding figures of 2 for 33 runs, while Dal took 2 for 41 runs. How quickly Reece’s day turned very bad when he limped off the field. Afghanistan’s Raz Mohammad Zazai was forced out of the match after he bowled only eight overs after he developed a hamstring problem.
Blair Tickner was a constant menace to Glamorgan all day, creating pressure on the batting order. His work with the ball only heightened Glamorgan’s difficulty, but the two batsmen grew out of the trouble early on.
