In a thrilling encounter of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Quetta Gladiators registered a narrow win against Karachi Kings. The victory followed a stunning, destructive collapse of the Kings’ batting order. This victory marks Quetta’s second win of the season, as they continue to vie for a spot in the playoffs.
Karachi started the match positively, scoring 75 runs in just one wicket down. Seifert was the top scorer, with his belligerent knock of 47 proving invaluable, with James Vince chipping in with 30. Soon Karachi’s situation deteriorated remarkably fast. As it turned out, they shockingly lost six wickets for a mere 22 runs, crashing to 97 all out in just 15.4 overs. Islamabad’s Hasan Ali battled to close the innings with a quickfire 24 not out off only 13 balls. Sadly, even his heroic efforts weren’t enough to stop the eventual implosion of that team.
Batting first, Quetta Gladiators struggled to find their rhythm as they were bowled out for just 142 runs. Faheem Ashraf shone brightly as Quetta’s top scorer with a strong 43 runs. Other prominent contributions came from Kusal Mendis and Hasan Nawaz, who both were able to cross the double-figure mark. The team’s aggregate was helped by a combination of solid relationships and fast runs occurring during the group’s innings.
Karachi Kings could not cope with the threat posed by Quetta’s blistering bowling assault. Muhammad Wasim, Muhammad Amir and Khurram Shahzad claimed two wickets apiece as they continued to press Karachi. Their efforts stifled Karachi’s batting line-up, paving the way for Quetta’s victory.
What a massive victory for Quetta Gladiators! As things stand, they now sit level on points with Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi at the top of the PSL table. In the world of cricket, they still find themselves behind both teams on net run-rate. Specifically important is the fact that the Gladiators still have a game in hand, giving them a chance to climb higher in the standings.
Karachi Kings stay stubbornly in second place – though they are now four points behind leaders Islamabad United. And with having played one more game than their closest rivals, Islamabad, the pressure mounts as the season wears on.
