In a thrilling encounter, the Lahore Qalanders and Karachi Kings faced off. Here’s how this exciting contest unfolded in Thursday’s edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The final played out on historic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The Qalanders started off in great form, adding 29 runs at the loss of no wicket in 3.1 overs.
Fakhar Zaman, who opened the innings for the Qalanders, only managed 10 runs, falling cheaply. He hit two fours in his aggressive knock of 15 runs off just eight balls before getting out. His initial drive laid the groundwork for an impressive remainder of the innings.
After Zaman, Mohammad Naeem came to the crease and went big from the first ball itself. Going out at No. 7, he scored 18 of those runs—coming from one six and two fours—in just 11 balls. Naeem’s performance was pivotal in maintaining the momentum for the Lahore Qalanders, allowing them to accelerate their score in the initial overs.
The Qalanders had the fortune of a single run via extras, increasing their total to 29 runs on extras alone. That outlier of a start put them in good position, as they looked to continue to build off their early momentum.
On the bowling front, Mir Hamza took 4-38 in support of the Karachi Kings. He bowled two overs and only gave away 10 runs, showing his capability to put pressure on the batting team. Hassan had a crack with the ball, bowling one over for 13 runs. Further to that, Abbas bowled a short spell of only 0.1 overs, conceding six runs while participating in the match.
As the game went on, the Lahore Qalanders never lost control of the game, as they stretched their ideal opening alliance. Their bold batting strategy and erudite bowling attack by the Karachi Kings created a roller-coaster of a match.
