Devin Bush Faces Assault Charges Following Arrest in Pennsylvania

This past Sunday, Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush found himself face-down in a Pennsylvania snow bank after being arrested on felony charges. He’s currently charged with simple assault and harassment. The charges resulted from one flashpoint incident with his girlfriend. In one encounter with police, she claimed that Bush had beaten her and brutally snatched her car keys from her.

According to police reports, the fight escalated when Bush reportedly shoved his girlfriend into a massage table in an office suite. He extended his full body weight over the top of her. Things came to a head with Bush pursuing her throughout their house. He was attempting to snatch her cell phone while she filmed the domestic dispute. The girlfriend alleged that Bush destroyed her phone during the incident.

Bush confessed to smashing the phone but Painten’s account of the physical altercation was contested. These competing narratives have led to a slew of questions about what exactly happened the day this tragic incident—which is now a lawsuit—occurred. That hasn’t stopped one preliminary hearing from being scheduled in Allegheny County court for May 20.

The 26-year-old linebacker started his career as the 10th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. Because the Pittsburgh Steelers ended up drafting him to join their squad. After four seasons with the Steelers, Bush spent the 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks. In 2024, he negotiated a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.

In his rookie season with the Browns, Bush started 10 games. He stepped in right away and left an impressive mark on the department, recording 76 tackles — good for fourth on the team. His play has been incredible, directly impacting the unit’s overall success on the defensive side of the ball.

However the legal proceedings play out, it’s unclear how this latest development will affect Bush’s future career with the Browns. As of a week later, the team still has not released a formal statement on this incident or what the future holds for him with the organization.
