Joel Dahmen continued to stay out in front at the Corales Puntacana Championship after posting a 1-under 71 on Saturday. With this performance, he was able to build a three-stroke lead as he heads into the final round of the very competitive tournament. Dahmen looks for a wire-to-wire win. If successful, this win would be his second at the event, his first occurring in 2021.
Dahmen had a stellar cumulative score of 17-under 199 after three rounds. In fact, he laid the groundwork with historically good opening rounds of 62-66. His unexpected but formidable early success left him as the clear frontrunner. It put him on pace to shatter the tournament’s 36-hole record, a testament to his otherworldly play the entire week.
Chasing Dahmen are a host of players, led by Vince Whaley, Jeremy Paul and Ben Martin, all sharing a 13 under mark. With the final round at hand, they’ll be hoping to make up that distance and step up to contend with Dahmen’s head start.
At the same time, 54-hole leader Ben Polland, who shot 72 on Saturday, is tied for 54th at 3 under. Polland will be defending his title next week as he plays in the PGA Professional Championship. Regardless of how his newfound success in Puntacana plays out in the future, one thing is for sure—his eyes are still firmly set on what lies ahead.
Should Dahmen come out on top on Sunday, he will be sure to leave his mark on this tournament. This win would give him a two-year exemption from qualifying events. As he prepares for the closing round, all eyes will be on him. Will he be able to maintain his momentum and duck in for another win at the Corales Puntacana Championship?
