The Pittsburgh Steelers are rooting hard for one particular Aaron Rodgers decision. The future of the 41-year-old quarterback, four-time NFL MVP and one-time supermodel spouse might well hold the key to their future. It’s been more than two weeks since the Steelers were last in action. Like many other teams, they are counting on landing Rodgers to be a destination of his choosing, despite those landing spots quickly evaporating. Rodgers’ trip to the Steelers’ facility. One thing he didn’t do was discuss the future with key centerpiece Cameron Heyward, who himself is giddy at the possibility of Rodgers putting on a Steelers uniform.
This patience is likely about to bear a lot of dividends real soon as Steelers QB Rodgers mulls his choices. After getting the offer from the Giants, Rodgers is still weighing his options, including a possible trip to Pittsburgh. The competitive, hard-nosed football culture he’s seeking aligns perfectly with his own competitive ambition to win.
Steelers veteran player Cameron Heyward recently weighed in on Rodgers’ possible addition to their division rivals.
"What I would say to him, 'If you come to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the goal is to win. We haven't had the success we want, but the goal is still in mind to raise the Lombardi and bring the seventh one to Pittsburgh. We don't really care about the glitz and glam of New York, but the focus is on good, hard football, competing every day, challenging each other,' and we've gotta go from there." – Cameron Heyward
Heyward never had a chance to meet face to face with Rodgers during his official visit. Even so, he sounds quite hopeful about the opportunity to work with the famous pistol-packing QB. He acknowledged that he has not spoken with Rodgers and stated:
"I have not had any communication with him." – Cameron Heyward
Rodgers is looking unorthodox ways to improve his commitment to the Steelers. Among those ideas is a darkness retreat, something he’s been toying with for a while that he thinks would be productive. Don’t expect to see Heyward in any of those efforts.
"I was asked a question, 'Would you go to the lengths of going to a darkness retreat to recruit Aaron Rodgers.' I said, 'I'm not doing that. The pitch is, if you want to be a Steeler, be a Steeler.' That's all it was. It wasn't that I don't like Aaron Rodgers or I'm against it." – Cameron Heyward
Naturally, the Steelers expect to see a different outcome. They don’t doubt that their any-dedicated-to-a-fault spirit to build the best-possible-winning team will lure Rodgers to them. Even as they continue to wait for his final decision, they have to be excited about what Rodgers would add to their roster.
