Derek Carr Addresses Shoulder Injury and Media Speculation

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr announced he is fighting through a shoulder injury. He announced this change while preaching as a guest pastor at Church LV in Las Vegas. Carr has missed time with his injury, first reported on Apr. 11. Since the beginning of the Saints’ offseason program, he has been barred from entering the Saints’ facility.

What the Saints organization should be just as aware of is Carr’s state and up-to-date dealings with his status. Carr emphasized this collaboration, stating, “I have an MRI report to prove it. The team knows about it, we’ve been in constant communication.” His comments come at the height of increasing media frenzy surrounding the seriousness and consequences of his injury.

In the meantime, Carr is understandably concentrated on his recovery. In tandem, the Saints have selected quarterback Tyler Shough with their second-round pick, raising intriguing questions about the team’s future direction. Even Mickey Loomis, the Saints’ general manager, repeated the claim that Carr was still the starter. In a subtle indication of how important Shough’s role will be, Mullen said that’s for the team to decide through competition. Loomis was not specific on whether this competition would include a fully healthy Carr.

Despite the challenges he faces, Carr reiterated that his priorities remain faith, family, and football. In doing so, he took reporters to task for trying to guess about the extent of his injury and how it might affect his career. He said that focusing on those kinds of discussions distracts from what should matter most to him right now.

Carr and his wife, Heather, had initially hoped to visit New Orleans earlier in the offseason. Sadly, as their trip was being planned Heather suffered a health emergency. To add insult to injury, she experienced a miscarriage during that same timespan. This turn of events has only made it more difficult for Carr to be an active and present member of the team.

As the Saints approach the 2024 season, the battle for Tyler Shough’s spot is still developing. Though Carr’s injury is bound to affect team morale, both he and the Saints are dedicated to overcoming these unfortunate events together.
