Kyler Gordon has certainly earned his badge as an emerging superstar for the Chicago Bears. He signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension a couple of months ago that made him the NFL’s highest-paid slot cornerback. This remarkable pact averages just $13.3 million per year and contains only $31.25 million guaranteed. It locks in Gordon’s relationship with the Bears through the 2028 season.
The extension marks a significant milestone for both Gordon and the Bears, as he is now the second member of the team’s secondary to receive a contract extension under General Manager Ryan Poles’ leadership. Gordon has been phenomenal since being drafted by the Bears last year, earned a massive new deal.
Over his three seasons with the team, Gordon has recorded five interceptions and consistently finished in the top six in tackles each year. Over the course of the entire 2024 season, he earned an eye-popping 75 total tackles. This counted for four tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in just 15 games. Yet it has not escaped notice, either, that his effectiveness has made him a target on the attacks’ radar.
Dennis Allen, the Bears’ defensive coordinator, praised Gordon’s skills earlier this year, stating, “Kyler Gordon, I think, is an outstanding nickel player.” This award underscores just how important Gordon has been to the team’s defensive game plan.
Gordon said he’s excited to see that long-term plans in Chicago are taking their national debut. He claimed to be “agnostic” on the timing of his contract extension. More than that, he was amped to continue being a part of the most successful team in franchise history.
With that said, I’m confident we’re poised to achieve aggressive, but achievable goals. More than anything, though, I’m tremendously excited to get these fellas in and collaborate—together accounting for the others’ ideas—to find out what it is we’re really capable of! Allen said, expounding on the promise he believes Gordon has to be in the long-term plan for the Bears.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter as the first to report the contract extension. This makes the timing of this development even more crucial for the player and the team.
Gordon’s journey from being the first player selected by Ryan Poles in the 2022 NFL Draft to becoming a cornerstone of the Bears’ defense exemplifies his growth and dedication. He begins the new chapter with an undeservedly long contract and blooming expectations. All eyes will be on Gordon, as he tries to improve his game again.
