Mary Fowler Suffers ACL Injury in Women’s FA Cup Semi-Final

Mary Fowler, a key player for Manchester City, has been confirmed to have ruptured her ACL following an injury sustained during the team’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup semi-final. The injury is a big blow for the club, who are already reeling from a list of other player injuries.

The injury occurred during a high-stakes match on the weekend, where Fowler’s contributions were crucial to the team’s performance. Though only 22 years old, she has established herself as one of the best players on the Manchester City roster. She has added seven goals and eight assists in all competitions so far in the 2024/25 season. All together, she’s played in 25 games for the squad this year.

Manchester City today released a press release acknowledging the gravity of Fowler’s injury. They shared that she will remain with the club to collaborate directly with their medical staff as she begins her recovery process. This decision adds an exciting new dimension to Beth’s care, with the club clearly committed to ensuring she gets special care and support during her rehabilitation.

Fowler’s absence just deepens the plague of injuries besieging the Manchester City squad. She joins other teammates Khadija Shaw, Vivianne Miedema, Alex Greenwood, Jill Roord, and Lauren Hemp on the sidelines. There is perhaps no team under greater stress than Manchester City as they battle an escalating injury crisis. They are presently fourth in the Women’s Super League and seven points behind third place Manchester United.

The team has certainly gone through a rough stretch. They’ll be sorely certain to miss Fowler’s attacking prowess and playmaking ability. She has been a massive part of keeping Manchester City amongst the top teams in England and Europe.
