Stephen Curry, the star guard for the Golden State Warriors, is one game away from becoming a very big deal. He’ll be going head to head against the Los Angeles Clippers’ Jazz this Sunday. Having just bounced back from a broken thumb, he’s looking forward to showing what he can do. He’s poised to be a big difference maker in this heavyweight Homecoming bout.
In his most recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Curry had just 14 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field. He logged five rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes of action. The evening was not without its challenges. Curry banged his shooting thumb, causing him to leave the game with 1:59 remaining in the first quarter.
Even with that pain, Curry jumped right back on the floor. He played and launched through the second and third quarters but elected to not compete in the fourth and final period. He acknowledged that the thumb issue had some impact on his shooting performance, stating, “I just know it hurts right now, but I’ll be all right.”
Curry got an X-ray on his thumb after the game, and thankfully those results were negative. Reflecting on his feelings about the injury, he remarked, “I’m feeling great… ready to play Game 82 on Sunday. Excited about it.” He had a pain like a bell clanging in his thumb. He didn’t expect that discomfort to last long.
Looking forward to the upcoming clash with the Clippers, there was no question in Curry’s mind about how significant the game would be. “I don’t mean to sound alarmist,” he remarked. It should be an all-out, Game 7 type atmosphere. You win enough and you determine your own fate on a locked in playoffs series. If you lose, you roll the dice.
Warriors forward Draymond Green echoed this sentiment, stating, “[It will be] like a playoff game. Super intense. Two teams fighting for their playoff lives. Expected to be a very physical, high intelligent, high level basketball game.”
As the Warriors get ready for the game to decide it all, Curry being available is encouraging news for the team in more ways than one. His drive to make recent adversity his stepping stone speaks to his fierce, competitive spirit. Fans are looking forward to an electrifying match-up against the Clippers!
