Trae Young, the 26-year-old NBA All-Star, has pledged to donate $1 million to the University of Oklahoma’s men’s basketball program. Young’s has been a long, lasting love for Norman, Oklahoma. Now, he’s taking on a different role, one that has many parallels, as the new assistant general manager of the men’s basketball team. This announcement places him alongside NBA superstar Stephen Curry, who plays a similar administrative role at his own alma mater.

A graduate of Norman North High School, Young has never been shy about proclaiming his love for his hometown. We look forward to seeing the impact that his new role at OU will have as he works to help the university’s culture of winning. Young aims to work closely with both the coaching staff and front office to recruit the right players for the team.

“Trae is a son of Norman, Oklahoma, and he’s given so much to our city and its people,” – Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione

Young’s phenomenal basketball career started at the University of Oklahoma, where he became an All-American in 2017-18. During three years of playing for the Sooners, he created a legacy. He became the first person in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history to lead the entire nation in points per game and assists per game. He would go on to average 27.4 points and 8.7 assists per game, fully cementing his legendary status at OU.

Drafted fifth overall in the 2018 NBA draft, Young has since established himself as a four-time NBA All-Star. His accomplishments on the court might actually be the most remarkable thing about him. Off the court, he’s an indefatigable civic leader, mentor extraordinaire—returning all he can to the scene that molded him.

“This program has such a rich history, which I am fortunate to have been and continue to be a part of.” – Trae Young
