Brandon Clarke, the Memphis Grizzlies forward, is looking at a long recovery after doctors confirmed he had torn his rectus femoris tendon. During a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 19, Clarke sustained a high-grade PCL sprain in his right knee. Due to that injury, he’s been declared out for the rest of the season. In a major relief to the superstar athlete, Clarke has recommended a non-operative course of action. He’s keeping his mind on rehab and looking to make a full recovery in advance of next season.
Clarke’s injury unfortunately marks another significant development to stunt his still burgeoning career. This comes on the heels of a prior rupture of his left Achilles tendon incurred late in the 2022-23 season. He was able to bounce all the way back from that injury, showing amazing character and drive. Clarke saw action in 64 games this season for Memphis. He scored 8.3 points and grabbed 5.1 rebounds per game while averaging just 18.9 minutes on the floor.
The budgetary impact of Clarke’s absence is significant. With two years left on his contract, he’s got $25 million left on his deal with the Grizzlies. His teammates will sorely regret his absence on the court, as he proved the essential cog in their lineup.
Even with this news, Clarke opting for rehabilitation instead of immediate surgery is a positive development. We hope this non-operative treatment plan will allow him to continue his recovery without incurring the additional risks that come with surgery. The hope from the Grizzlies organization’s side is that he can get back to being a complete player. Fans are counting the days until season three begins!
