Brunson has been flaunting some pretty impressive statistics for most of his career. In 483 regular-season games including 333 starts, he has averaged 18.1 points and 5.0 assists, with 3.2 rebounds. Combined to play in 61 games this season. He’s averaging an impressive 26.3 points, 7.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds coming into his fourth professional season. As of now, he is still four games shy of the 65-game threshold that would allow him to qualify for postseason awards. This eye-popping stat might play a role in his accolades come season’s end.
The Knicks did well enough to tread water with a 8-6 record without Brunson. They have climbed to third place in the Eastern Conference. His return would be a huge boon to their quest for postseason glory. With just six regular-season games left to go, each game has become increasingly important to the team’s hopes to make a playoff push.
Brunson’s recovery has not followed the usual trajectory. According to news reports he’ll be returning to practice within days and may even be suiting up for a game this Saturday! The team and fans alike are hopeful that his presence on the court will provide a much-needed boost as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
In 2018, the Dallas Mavericks made Brunson the 33rd pick in the NBA Draft, bringing him into the fold just a few years after his rookie year. He’s easily become one of the Knicks’ most important players. His acumen and vision as a leader have been a game-changer in creating the team’s competitive advantage.
