Terrion Arnold Honors Late Brother with Jersey Number Change

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold may have the best decision you’ll ever see. He’ll be playing for his late brother, Khyree Jackson, and will go back to his old jersey number, 6, to honor him. This change follows Arnold’s brief stint wearing No. 0 after wide receiver Jameson Williams switched from that number. Arnold’s decision to switch back is more than a trend. It has profound emotional value, connected as it is to the tender memory of his late brother.

Khyree Jackson was unfortunately killed in an automobile accident on July 6, 2022, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Like any sibling, Arnold has been profoundly marked by the loss of his brother. He visited Khyree’s funeral service on July 26 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This is how Arnold ardently remembered his brother’s influence. He explained how important it was to preserve Khyree’s spirit in his actions, on and off the field.

In an interview with the “New Wave Podcast,” Arnold got real about what inspired him to spearhead this jersey change. The conversation was moderated by Ward 3 Councilmember Ryan Williams and Jaylen Mbakwe. He stressed that No. 6 is more than just a number. It represents his promise to keep Khyree’s memory alive while celebrating the deep connection between them.

“We all know what happened to my friend Khyree and I just feel like just being able to honor his legacy and then the impact that he even had on me,” – Terrion Arnold

>Each time Arnold dons the number, he said, he experiences an unusual degree of connection. He explained how honoring the memory of Khyree pushes him to perform at the utmost level.

“The guy was a competitor, the ultimate competitor and it’s kind of just that extra motivation when you look down and you say, ‘Dang man, I got on that 6 and my brother living through me at the same time,’” – Terrion Arnold

Prior to his career in the NFL, Arnold made a name for himself at John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee, Florida. There, he excelled as a dual threat wide receiver/safety. The move to go back to No. 6 is meant to honor Khyree’s memory. In addition, it represents a homecoming of sorts for Harold, as he most notably sported this number in high school, when he was really known for this number.

Terrion Arnold, now 22 years old, is poised to make an impact in the league while carrying the memory of his brother with him. To keep Khyree’s memory alive, he hopes his story resonates with others. In so doing, he hopes to encourage others to memorialize their loved ones and treasure the legacy they’ve left.

“That’s amazing and then just being able to talk to his family, talk to his dad or his mom and just letting them know like, ‘At the end of the day, Terrion ain’t forgot about Khyree,’” – Terrion Arnold
