Prospects Poised for Perfect Fits in NFL Schemes

In the fast-paced environment of the NFL, coaching staffs are hourly on the lookout for potential NFL draft candidates. They’re looking for players who’ll seamlessly slip into their tactical frameworks. Some prospects are clearly better than others at coloring within the lines of rigid coaching philosophies and systems. This year’s draft class is deep with intriguing prospects, so the race is really on. Inherently, each of these dynamic women has individual talents that could very well suit the strategic needs of so many teams.

Hairston, famous for his sticky coverage turf skills, is a cornerback who consistently has created on-the-ball production. The Green Bay Packers would like to get better at man coverage. Consider this, though, from coordinator Jeff Hafley. Hairston is a perfect candidate to shore up their defensive prowess. In particular, his ability to stay in tight coverage and break up passes fits in perfectly with Hafley’s aspirations for the defense to take a more aggressive approach.

For Las Vegas, that means preparing for an upstream tactical shift. Implementing more gap schemes will be a priority under new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. That’s where Jeanty comes in, a Notre Dame alumnus, 6-0 and 204 pounds. His elite ability to track runs in gap schemes is noteworthy. He’d be the perfect fit to thrive in Kelly’s transformed offensive scheme. Jeanty’s physical attributes and skill set offer a promising foundation for Las Vegas’ offensive restructuring.

Johnson has the potential to be a fantastic fit for an outside zone-heavy offense. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, the South Carolina alum carries a unique athletic profile. New coach Ben Johnson is undoubtedly excited to use those skills, having run effective concepts like this before. Johnson’s flexibility and burst make him ideal as a threat to turn the corner on outside runs while bringing value to executing those runs.

Of the four, Hampton may be the best overall prospect. We saw him exhibit that talent last year, ripping off 45 runs of 10+ yards. Even at a “little” 5-9, he carries big-time power at 211 pounds. With his explosive runs, he can easily break through defenses. This skill set would make him a popular pick to any team in the draft that seeks to boost their rushing offense.
