Colts Seek to Strengthen Team with Top Draft Picks

The Indianapolis Colts are focusing their attention on the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. Their goal is to completely overhaul their roster ahead of next season. This defense was on track for a miserable 2024 campaign, giving up an average of 25.5 points per game. Today, they are looking for talent that they can use to become more dynamic on both offense and defense. Colston Loveland, Jordan Burch, and Emmanwori are exciting freak athletes in serious contention. Each one adds complementary and specialized talent that can help address the team’s urgent needs in powerful ways.

Colston Loveland has developed, particularly in recent weeks, into a real seam-stretcher to pair with big-armed QB Anthony Richardson. His unique skill set would do wonders to open up the Colts’ tight end room. This position has been pretty sleepy over the past year. That means Richardson needs a talented supporting cast so we can see the best of what he can show as a future franchise QB. That’s why Loveland’s addition may be the offensive jolt he needs.

Defensive Reinforcements

Jordan Burch is another major prospect making waves after a killer senior season at Oregon, where he tallied 8.5 sacks. His knack for harassing enemy signal callers would instantly raise the ceiling of the Colts’ second wave of their defensive line. In reality, last year’s team would have floundered against prolific offenses. This made for a glaring need on the roster for players that can wreak havoc in the backfield and force turnovers.

In addition to Burch, the Colts should consider defensive players like Carter, who notched 12 sacks in 2024, and Kenneth Grant, a formidable run stopper weighing in at 331 pounds. Grant has a chance to become an enviable duo with Milton Williams, who the Patriots just signed. The Colts’ young defense could really use somebody like Simmons to help set the tone, especially in a run-heavy division.

Versatile Options

Colts are taking a look at potential Swiss Army knife types too such as Jahdae Barron and Emmanwori. Don’t forget that Barron turned heads at the combine with his speed, running a 4.39 second 40-yard dash. Last season, he excelled by picking off five throws. Emmanwori turned heads with a stellar 4.38-second 40-yard dash. Standing nearly 6-foot-3 and weighing in around 220 pounds, his speed adds an electrifying layer to his potential as a defensive back.

As the Colts enter the draft, this is a decision they need to consider deeply. Other key veterans such as Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy are in the last year(s) of their contracts. If they want to be successful down the line, this is when the team lays the groundwork for future success. See who the Eagles picked at Kevin Winston Jr. in our two-round Eagles mock draft. In the other corner, the Colts are hoping to land him as they try to improve the majority of their roster.
