Tre’Davious White is still back with the Buffalo Bills! The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback and defensive captain was released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason. The Bills, attempting to add more depth to their defensive front, signed White to a one-year contract valued at a maximum of $6.8 million. This trade is a big homecoming for the player who has had perhaps the best NFL career by any Hawaii high school athlete.
As an undrafted free agent, White’s path through the league took him to play with the Bills, Rams and Baltimore Ravens. His first contract with the Rams, signed last offseason, was a one-year deal worth $8.5 million. However, due to salary cap constraints, the Bills released him following a challenging season, which included injuries that hindered his performance.
During his time as a player in the NFL, White has had an overwhelmingly positive influence both on and off the field. He has amassed 333 career tackles, 18 career interceptions, 73 passes defended and five forced fumbles over his illustrious career. In 2019, he was named first-team All-Pro. That same year, his last in the NFL, he led the league with six interceptions. His career accolades include two Pro Bowl selections.
Injuries have been a huge factor for White in recent years. He ruptured his left ACL on Thanksgiving Day in 2021. As such, he only saw action in six regular-season games and two playoff games during the 2022 campaign. His challenges severely compounded when he ruptured his Achilles tendon just four games into the 2023 season. Soon after, Rams management made the decision to release him.
The Bills have made a surprise decision to re-sign White. This signing provides both depth and experience to their secondary with hopes of improving what has been a shaky defensive strategy. White’s experience with the team’s culture and systems should help ensure a relatively easy adjustment back to Buffalo.
