Dillon Brooks Ejected After On-Court Scuffle with Kevin Durant

On Sunday, Houston Rockets new-comer Dillon Brooks was nearly ejected during a feisty battle with the Phoenix Suns. The incident unfolded after a fistfight started between him and superstar Kevin Durant. The incident took place with 4:48 remaining in the second quarter, when Brooks was whistled for a foul on Durant. With that last three-pointer, the Rockets extended their lead to a dominating 55-38. Given the team’s numerical advantage, tensions may have been higher on both sides, but the fury was palpable. When Brooks and Durant exchanged shoves, Brooks was ejected from the game.

Brooks was assessed two technical fouls in the fight, ejection. On the flip side, both Kevin Durant and Nick Richards were assessed one technical foul each. After an extensive review of the play, the technical fouls were upheld. This ejection was Brooks’ first of the season and the seventh in his eight-year NBA career. Before his departure, Brooks had scored eight points in only 11 minutes of playing time.

Brooks has now earned 15 techs on the year. He’s currently only one more of those fouls away from triggering an automatic one-game suspension. Brooks’ reputation follows him as an overly aggressive and dangerous player. As of Sunday, he leads the entire NBA this season with 235 committed fouls. The Rockets continued the trend even after Brooks left for Houston. They even outscored the Suns 23-11 after his ejection, pushing their lead to 78-49.
