In an impressive display of batting, Lancashire’s Josh Bohannon scored 155 runs, helping his team secure a draw against Northamptonshire in a tense match. The clash came to a head at Old Trafford. Bohannon was every bit as instrumental in the effort, turning the tide completely in the home side’s favor.
Bohannon’s first inning began with a barrage of dominant ground balls. He even played a glorious drive through the covers, which took Lancashire into the lead. His attacking style and determination were evident as he navigated the bowling attack, building a solid foundation for his team. His luck was bound to change and it certainly did when he was out in a freakish way. Bohannon’s dismissal proved to be the decisive moment of the match. Wicketkeeper Lewis McManus caught him after the ball deflected off James Sales at short leg from a delivery by Saif Zaib.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of Bohannon’s innings. His contributions were integral to Lancashire’s fightback. After all, they were one play away from losing in the first half of the game. Bohannon was quickly joined by fellow batsman Tom Harris to start chipping away at the overnight deficit of 144 runs. Between them they made 72 runs before lunch. This partnership grew into a formidable alliance, ultimately leading their team to a total of 351-9 when the players shook hands at 17:40 BST.
Harris proved to be the consummate accumulator, posting a brisk half-century off only 94 balls. This success represented his third fifty-plus total in four innings. That partnership of 94 was absolutely key. Not only did it ensure the current fourth wicket partnership totalled 199 runs, it rescued Lancashire from a tricky position at 243-4, still trailing by 25 runs. His dismissal of Harris at short leg was a key turning point in the match. Behind Bohannon and Harris’s truly amazing resistance, Lancashire out-battled them to seize the momentum and force the draw.
