Australia A defeated England A by 25 runs in an enthralling four-day cricket match at Sydney’s Sydney Cricket Ground. The competition was steep in this year’s contest, with the two teams trading leads and fighting tooth and nail to the last possible second. Australia A took the match by completing a dominant performance in their second innings. This was just reward after England A had made the running in a topsy-turvy first innings.
In the first innings, Australia A made 343 runs, putting their opponents under a lot of pressure with a high target. England A came back like a train, rattling off a total of 407 and securing a first-innings lead of 64 runs. Other highlights from England A included 164 runs from Dan Scholfield and 108 runs from Alice Capsey. Their hard work positioned them to win outright should they get the votes to.
After lunch on the fourth day, the Australia A captain Knott declared at 353 for 6. This limited England A to a challenging but not impossible target of 289 runs, giving the match an exciting level of drama. In spite of the immense work they had put in, England A lost the match. They faltered to a heart-breaking defeat, all out for just 263 in their second innings.
