Abdul Carter Aims for Top NFL Draft Pick Despite Injury Setbacks

Abdul Carter, a promising Penn State outside linebacker, is making headlines as a potential first pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Carter remains a very optimistic prospect, despite tearing his pec and shoulder during the College Football Playoff. He’s been battling a stress reaction in his right foot that was found at the NFL combine. The most talented athlete in this draft class, the former Nittany Lion presence at Penn State’s pro day on Friday. Include family, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, but was never going to work out on the field.

In truth, Carter exuded a rare confidence in his skills. In doing so, he made an impassioned case for himself as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. He is currently the second ranked prospect on Mel Kiper Jr.’s Big Board. He’s an evangelist for the idea that defensive players are equally—if not more—impactful than quarterbacks. Carter currently battles Miami quarterback Cam Ward for the No. He is convinced beyond all doubt that his total effect on the game qualifies him as the best player to be selected first.

And even though the Tennessee Titans appear set on taking Ward first overall, Carter isn’t done dreaming just yet. For the last several weeks leading up to the combine, rumors swirled about his plan to attend a workout—if he agreed to come at all. As agent Drew Rosenhaus later confirmed to Schefter, Carter wouldn’t be working out any at this point.
