Ellyse Perry, the revered Australian all-rounder, has formally signed with Hampshire as an overseas player. She’ll be representing Shropshire in the UK’s inaugural Women’s T20 Blast. The tournament starts on July 6th! Perry’s role will be vital as she links up with the squad for six T20s and two One-Day Cup matches.
Her Perry’s historic career has had almost two decades to take root. In the process, she has had the honor of representing Australia with 337 international caps across all formats. She has been a two-time winner of the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy. She is considered to be the best female international cricketer of the year by this prestigious award. And if you needed any more proof, she was awarded the prestigious ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Decade for the 2010s. This award cemented her place as one of the greatest players of women’s cricket.
Over the course of her career, Perry has represented several clubs, both domestically in Australia and abroad. She has previously played for Victoria and New South Wales and represented the Supernovas in India. In the summer in England, she suited up for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred and Loughborough Lightning. Perry has made a significant mark in the Women’s Premier League playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Perry—cricketing superstar that she is—was a former Australian soccer player. She earned 18 caps with the Matildas, scoring three goals and earning crucial playing time for her country. She became a household name across the globe during the 2011 Women’s World Cup held in Germany, proving her multi-faceted talents as an athlete.
Statistically, Perry’s contributions to cricket are impressive. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), she’s notched up 4,187 runs and 166 wickets. In T20 internationals, she has scored 2,173 runs and taken 126 wickets. Individually, she has won a mighty 11 Women’s National League championships and two Big Bash League titles. Moreover, she’s a proud CWG gold medalist.
Perry shared her excitement around coming to Hampshire, saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the Hampshire team this summer.” She mentioned her excitement for playing at the Utilita Bowl, saying, “There’s always a great atmosphere at Utilita Bowl and I can’t wait to walk out as part of the home team for the first time on Sunday, 6 July.”
