Danielle Collins, the charismatic and brash tennis star, recently learned the hard way that she was about to face an unexpected foe while playing at the Miami Open. On the lot behind Hard Rock Stadium, Collins found an injured dog curled up and lying in the center of an empty road. The dog, soon to be re-christened Crash, was badly injured and required emergency care. Moved to act, Collins stepped in and made sure Crash got the treatment he needed and was truly dying without.
Crash spent five days on the hospital’s highest level of oxygen support before he stabilized enough to begin his recovery. Collins, who posted blow-by-blow updates on Instagram, was overjoyed with her veterinary team that helped save Crash.
“Also a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!” – Danielle Collins on Instagram.
While Crash was on the mend, Collins continued updating her followers about his recovery. Her social media updates showcased Crash’s recovery and his thankfulness.
“His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving,” – Danielle Collins.
After his full recovery, Crash will be headed to school and into the Collins’ family. He is going to have a younger brother named Quincy. Quincy is a labradoodle who frequently keeps Collins’ company courtside when she plays in Miami. Described as inquisitive and loving, Crash has been a great ambassador to express his appreciation for his new lease on life.
Collins proved her doubtar value by winning her first two matches at the Miami Open. At the same time, she fought like hell to keep Crash alive. She was, for all her brilliance, ultimately outdueled by Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16.
