Jordan Goodwin’s tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers has been nothing short of a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs. Goodwin started his journey by signing with the Los Angeles Lakers to compete in their training camp. Unfortunately, he dealt with an injury early on, limiting him to just one preseason appearance. Though he battled through this limitation, determination and dedication helped separate him, landing him a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. This season, Goodwin has appeared in 19 NBA games. As the first big man off the bench, he has been one of the biggest reasons why the Aztecs continue to excel.
During his brief appearances, Goodwin has averaged 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He displays elite shooting off the dribble at a 47% TS% on jumpers. He dazzles with a phenomenal 41% shooting from 3-point range. He’s played just 20.5 minutes per game on average. In 18 of the 19 contests he’s played, he’s done the rite which is grabbing an offensive board. These statistics further emphasize his worth to the team, showcasing his deftness in the clutch while coming through when it counts the most.
The ride has not always been easy for Goodwin. After the Lakers waived him earlier in the season, he ended up signing with their G League affiliate, South Bay. Through all of it, Goodwin exhibited an exceptional talent and an unrelenting will that would not be denied. On February 7, he returned to Los Angeles Lakers, signing a two-way contract. This decision allowed him to focus at the NBA level on what was already making him such a standout player. Simultaneously, he remained in touch with the G League, where he’d played for parts of two seasons with the Capital City Go-Go.
Goodwin’s time in the NBA and G League has made him a more well-rounded basketball player. He moves gracefully from one role and set of expectations to the next. With such an excellent start, all eyes remain on his performance as he adapts to the demands and rewards of the pro game.
