Danielle Gibson, a 23-year-old all-rounder for England, will miss the early part of the women’s domestic cricket season. She’s missed the season with a back injury. A recent scan has confirmed that Gibson is currently dealing with a stress fracture. She has played 22 T20 internationals for the senior England team. She will, therefore, miss the women’s county cricket fixtures that begin in April. The injury was found while she was getting ready for the multi-format series between England A and Australia A which will be held in Sydney.
Gibson had been an unused member of England's squad for the Ashes earlier this year and joined Somerset before the relaunch of women's county cricket. Sadly, her present injury means she won’t be able to play as the new season gets underway. She was selected as part of an England A squad to tour Australia during the series. Though Sarah was initially uncomfortable in making preparations, this prompted more investigation and ultimately a diagnosis.
The team strongly weighed Gibson’s health and future outlook before making a decision. They had then made the decision to pull her out before the beginning of the domestic season. She will now return to the UK for her rehabilitation and recovery. This setback means that she will miss the four-day match against Australia A at the end of the tour.
Essex’s Eva Gray has been called up as Gibson’s replacement for the England A squad. Joining him to fill the void created by Gibson’s absence and keep the MYM crew going for the long haul of the series will be Gray. The reality though is that team management was hoping for Gray to finally blossom and be a big time contributor during this stretch.
